A Little Now Can Save A Lot Later – Why Have A Will

Summer is the season for getting out and riding, but have you taken the time to consider the costs of a motorcycle accident. Cars and motorcycles share the roads daily and most often do so safely. Many do not want to think about what could happen when an accident occurs.
Responsible riders do their best to wear helmets and protective clothing (most learn this after their first accident – road rash is extremely painful). You see bumper stickers all the time to be “motorcycle aware”, but accidents happen.
With so many distracted drivers on the road it takes only a split second for lives to be changed forever when a vehicle collides or cuts off a motorcycle causing injuries.

Is motorcycle insurance required in CT? YES

Motorcycle insurance in Connecticut is required and coverage should be well thought out. Just like with automobiles, motorcyclists in CT are required by law to carry liability insurance with at least the following coverage minimums: $25,000 bodily injury per person. $50,000 bodily injury per accident. But is that enough?
A minor accident with emergency room visit can cost approximately $15,000.00.

Consider a serious accident that requires ambulance ride, airlift, 2 weeks in hospital and 3 surgeries – you are looking at over $100,000 in medical expenses alone. Add in missing 2 months of work, replacing vehicle, the possibility of future physical therapy, etc. and you definitely will want reconsider the limits of the policy you carry for your motorcycle. Any motor vehicle collision can cause substantial harms and losses, but when one gets in a collision on a motorcycle the harms and losses can be even more catastrophic, as there is no vehicle to absorb the impact and help prevent the person from flying through air.
If you have severe injuries you can rack up over $100,000 in your first 3 days and into the millions if paralyzed or you sustain a brain injury. I urge everyone to have as much insurance coverage for your auto and motorcycle as possible, including very high Uninsured and Underinsured motorist limits because many drivers who are at fault are woefully underinsured and several are completely uninsured.

Serious Injuries and Compensation

If you or a loved one has been injured in a motorcycle accident, the injuries may be catastrophic. Without the protective body of a car surrounding them, motorcyclists can be severely injured in an otherwise minor accident.
